The ELVIS_PICASSO PORTFOLIO is centred around a virtual art foundation based in Amsterdam, a number of theoretical international art galleries, and a community of real and imaginary artists.

Its leading protagonist is the character, Elvis_Picasso, some sort of alter-ego for struggling artists, but also a character démodé, the name being based upon two long dead, though not insignificant, artists.

The portfolio plunders the 'real' art scene for its own credibility: galleries furnished with interiors of other 'prestigious' galleries and museums; pretentious and opaque texts reengineered to validate the works and their creators; and other fanciful things, such as the world of false news and bogus, phoney and pseudo art.

Elvis_Picasso is an artist of immense talent and wealth, who while having very humble origins, grew into an immensely important, earth shattering artist, architect, producer, benefactor and philanthropist, etc, - and the saviour of art no less.

NOTES to the PORTFOLIO

"Elvis_Picasso is a wandering character from Australia, who emigrated to the United States where he became an artist - somewhat destitute. With some small change he made from begging in the streets of Queens, New York, he purchased a New York Lottery ticket (the first prize was a record amount at the time). Amazingly, Elvis_Picasso won the first prize of $56 million. He invested much of his winnings in the emerging commodities industries, Apple Computer, for example, and became very rich indeed.

"He set up his first Elvis_Picasso Gallery in Manhattan, 360 E Broadway, in 1995, which showcased a number of very obscure artists in some ground-breaking exhibitions. This was followed by other 'Elvis_Picasso Galleries', in the Ville de Nulle Parts, Switzerland, the Elvis_Picasso Gallery in Terang, Victoria, Australia and elsewhere.

"Elvis_Picasso also established himself in the international world of art through a massive production of work, which has been exhibited in such galleries as the Guggenheim, New York, the Louvre in Paris, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia.

"His work is published in the enormously influential and internationally acclaimed, 'The Journal of Entropic Surrealism'.

"Along with several collaborators and admirers, including Dame Mary Either and Dr Enem Murphy, Elvis_Picasso recently set up the Elvis_Picasso Foundation in Amsterdam.

"Elvis_Picasso has several studios across the globe where visitors can admire and purchase works from his private collection. Architect designed studios are in Jackson Heights, New York, Lyon, France and Bird Island, NSW, Australia, and can be visited by appointment.

"This unique publication has been produced to celebrate the achievements and contributions made to the world by Dr Elvis_Picasso. And we are all very grateful and honoured to be a part, albeit small, of it."
